CUPID IS STUPID:
THE THORNBIRDS CELEBRATE SINGLEDOM AT THE ROXY

Los Angeles, CA (January 11, 2005) - February 14th is no longer the only holiday that celebrates amore in L.A. Modern rock act, the Thornbirds, have christened the day after Valentine’s Day, “Cupid is Stupid Tuesday,” in honor of all the lonely singles in the Southland who need a little love. The ‘Birds will be kicking off their first self-proclaimed “anti-holiday” with a rock concert at the famed Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood at 10pm on Tuesday, February 15th.

“I find it a little unnerving to see gas stations decorating their Slim Jim dispensers with little hearts and cherubs the day after New Year’s,” says Russ Parrish, lead singer/guitarist of the Thornbirds. “I mean come on – what is this holiday about anyway? It was created to boost sales for card shops and florists, and it’s here to make singles feel like ass. We thought it was time the bachelors and bachelorettes of L.A. had a day all for themselves, and so, we have dubbed February 15th 2005, ‘Cupid is Stupid Tuesday.’”

To highlight the true meaning of February 15th, the band is asking fans to submit their most traumatic, humiliating, and/or hilarious Valentine stories to be read between sets. The audience member with the most amazingly awful Valentine’s story will be treated to a gourmet dinner for two at L.A’s tribute to garlic gastronomy, the Stinking Rose. The Stinking Rose, a notable fixture on Beverly Hills famed Restaurant Row, is famous for drenching all menu items, including desserts, with copious amounts of garlic. “What better way to shun the romance of a candlelit dinner for two?” notes bassist, Dean Cameron. “Nothing spoils a tender moment like halitosis.”

Though the theme of the evening will focus on vilifying the annual Hallmark holiday, the Thornbirds promise a good time for all. “We want couples to be able to rock out as well,” says drummer, Darren Leader. “We have been working on a lot of new music – everyone is in for a great show.” Leader explains that “Cupid is Stupid Tuesday” is not actually a rejection of a day that celebrates love and relationships, but rather, a reason to celebrate love every day. “‘Cupid is Stupid’ is simply rejecting the necessity of fat flying babies with arrows and cheap boxes of chocolate flavored lard one day a year.” says Leader. “And we get to embarrass people – that’s great, too.”

All attendees to the post-Valentine’s show will receive their own anti-valentine, as a token of admiration from the Thornbirds, and will all have a chance to win more Singles Awareness memorabilia throughout the evening. “We wanted to get a little creative this year, “ says rhythm guitarist, Jimmy Oleson, “We want our audience to know that the Thornbirds love them even if no one else does.”

Individuals interested in submitting their valentine’s horror stories for a chance to win a dinner for two at the Stinking Rose, should send them via email to courtney@warriorrecords.com. Interested parties must be attendance on February 15th and must be willing to have their story read to the Roxy audience in order to qualify. The Roxy is located at 9009 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood, 90069. Admission is free to those who have bought the Thornbirds’ album, “All The Same,” (contact Courtney Wachs for complimentary guest list inclusion) and $10 without.
