BENNY MARDONES CELEBRATES
THE "ART OF MAKING A DIFFERENCE"
“THE VOICE” TO PERFORM AT 10TH ANNUAL PRISM AWARDS
Beverly Hills, CA (April 17, 2006) - Benny “The Voice” Mardones is scheduled to perform at the 10th annual PRISM Awards on Thursday, April 27th at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The Entertainment Industries Council (EIC), an entertainment mainstay for 23 years, has presented the PRISM Awards annually in attempts to present an accurate depiction of drug, alcohol, and tobacco addiction in film, television, music, and all other entertainment-focused media. EIC, in partnership with National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), celebrates the “art of making a difference” by encouraging creators to show the reality of substance abuse and addiction. Mardones, who’s first original album in 15 years, Let’s Hear it for Love, just released on April 11, has been a long-time supporter of EIC, and knows firsthand what it is like to live a lifestyle of excess.
“The PRISM Awards are doing a great service for the entertainment industry as well as the general public by increasing awareness, “ says Mardones. “Decadent lifestyles have long been glamorized on television, in the movies, and in the music industry… at some point some one has to take responsibility and show the public how dangerous these excesses are. I spent the better half of a decade battling my addictions…I wish I had been shown at the time what kind of a toll the rock-and-roll lifestyle was going to have on my family and on myself physically.”
Mardones is the subject of an up-coming documentary called, Into the Night: The Benny Mardones Story, which is expected to be released this summer. The film chronicles his ride to stardom, his battle with drugs and alcohol, and his subsequent rallying thanks to the unwavering support of his friends, family and fans. “I’m one of the lucky ones,” says Mardones. “I probably shouldn’t still be standing here today. But because I am, I’ve dedicated the past few years to remaining sober, and supporting those organizations that encourage clean living.”
Nominees for the 2006 10th annual PRISM awards include Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix for Walk the Line, Rosario Dawson for Rent, Christina Ricci for Prozac Nation, and Ann Hathaway for Havoc. The awards will air at a later date on FX.
Let’s Hear it For Love, featuring guest appearance by Eddie Money and Katrina Karlson, is released on Warrior Records and distributed by Bayside Entertainment. Benny is currently scheduling upcoming tour dates, including a number of special appearances at non-profit gatherings that support and honor those in the disabled community.
